Dolly Parton Speaks Out Amid Health Scare: 'I'm Not on My Last Breath!' Dolly Parton has directly addressed fans’ worries with a heartfelt video to prove she’s doing well, filmed during a commercial shoot promoting the Grand Ole Opry. This message came after her sister Freida’s social media post asking for prayers sparked rumors that Dolly’s health might be more serious than publicly known.
"Everybody seems to think I'm way sicker than I really am. Do I look ill to you? I'm hustling hard here!" Dolly says, clearly wanting to reassure everyone from the set. "I thought the best way to quiet the rumors was to tell you all myself—I’m alright. I’m definitely not ready to check out yet. I believe God still has plans for me, and I’ve got plenty of work left to do."
In the video, Dolly is seen dressed glamorously in her signature country-western style, signaling her dedication to the Grand Ole Opry project she’s promoting. She makes a point to give the exact date—October 8th—to confirm she recorded the message recently and genuinely.
She shares a bit about her recent health struggles with a candid and down-to-earth tone: "I know some of you have been concerned, and your prayers mean a lot to me because my faith is very important. I’ve had some medical issues. After my husband Carl was very ill and later passed away, I admittedly neglected my own health. When I finally did address it, the doctors found a few things that needed attention—not life-threatening, but enough that I had to cancel some engagements to stay closer to home and Vanderbilt for treatments."
But Dolly’s refusal to let gloom take over shows in her humor too. She jokes about an AI-generated image circulating online showing her supposedly on her deathbed with fellow country star Reba McEntire. "They made it look like we both needed to be buried! If I were really dying, I don't think Reba would be the one at my bedside. Maybe she’d visit me earlier," she quips.
She wraps up with an emphatic reminder: "There are lots of rumors, but hearing it straight from me means I’m okay. I’m not ready to go yet—I’m still working, and I’m grateful for your care and prayers. Keep them coming!"
Earlier on Tuesday, her representative Olly Rowland tried to calm the swirling concerns, telling the Las Vegas Review Journal, "It’s just kidney stones and a procedure she needs to treat them. Her sister’s post got blown way out of proportion, which is unfortunate."
Freida’s original post read, "Last night, I spent hours praying for my sister Dolly. Many know she’s not feeling her best. I believe in prayer’s power and invite everyone who loves her to join me as prayer warriors. She’s strong, loved, and with all these prayers lifted, I truly feel she’ll be fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!"
This plea from Freida came at a time when fans were already worried, following cancellations of several of Dolly’s commitments and her announcement postponing her December Las Vegas residency. Additionally, it was revealed she would not attend the upcoming Motion Picture Academy’s Governors Award ceremony.
Later, Freida clarified her intent, stating, "I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make things sound so serious. Dolly’s just been a little under the weather. I asked for prayers simply because I believe strongly in their power. It was a sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Your love and support truly help."
In her initial statement about delaying her Vegas shows, Dolly had kept details vague but joked, "Maybe it’s time for my 100,000-mile check-up, though it’s not the usual visit to my plastic surgeon."
But here’s the part most people miss — despite all the loving concern, some might wonder if Dolly’s openness about her health challenges encourages more rumors than reassurance.
