Nike's Air Force 1 Sneaker: A Fresh Take on an Iconic Design
Nike is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of sneaker fashion, and their latest Air Force 1 design has sparked an intriguing conversation among sneaker enthusiasts. The new model, dubbed the 'Bouclé' edition, is causing a stir due to its resemblance to a well-known Vans sneaker. But is this a case of inspiration or coincidence?
The Air Force 1, often recognized for its classic black and white leather builds, is now stepping into the spotlight with a unique twist. The 'Bouclé' version showcases a Desert Moss, Fierce Pink, Midwest Gold, and Baroque Brown color palette, a dyed canvas upper, and a playful touch with its shaggy shoelaces. This combination has led to comparisons with the Vans Old Skool 'Souvenir,' a popular sneaker with a similar aesthetic.
And here's where it gets interesting: Nike's official description paints a vivid picture, describing the Air Force 1 as having a 'bouclé upper, full of curled fabric covered in lush colors.' This, paired with the dyed canvas and fuzzy pink laces, creates a distinct look. But the similarities don't end there—the pink tongue branding and multicolored beaded border around the Swoosh further enhance the connection.
However, the timing of this release raises questions. Nike's design process typically spans years, while the Vans Old Skool 'Souvenir' dropped earlier this year. So, is this a case of Nike drawing inspiration from Vans, or a mere coincidence of fashion trends? Interestingly, the Vans sneaker itself drew inspiration from Chanel's 'On the Pavements' Messenger bag, featured in their 2015 'Boulevard Chanel' collection.
The Air Force 1 'Bouclé' is set to release on December 19th, retailing at $120 on Nike's Snkrs app and select retailers. Style code IO4474-300.
