Set once again on the continent of Orsterra—the setting of the original Octopath Traveler—this new installment weaves a narrative steeped in vengeance and divine power, centered around the mysterious Holy Rings. But Octopath Traveler 0 isn’t content with repeating the past. It deepens its world through new characters, richer mechanics, and interactive storytelling elements that allow every player to forge their own legend. And here’s where things get intriguing: how much control do players really have over their fate?
Meet the New Travelers
Your journey introduces three remarkable new companions, each carrying personal dreams, burdens, and ultimate abilities.
Delitia (Hunter) — Raised amid the burning sands of the Sunlands, Delitia is fiercely loyal to her tribe and proud of its heritage. Clad in her light desert garb, she searches tirelessly for her elder brother, destined to become the next clan leader. Ultimate Technique: Gift of the Aqeeq – Weakens enemies’ physical power and defense while boosting those stats for allies over several turns.
Esperre (Apothecary) — Compassion drives Esperre, a healer who travels to reach and rescue as many lives as possible. Inspired by his late father—an esteemed apothecary—he pursues mastery of his craft to honor that legacy. Ultimate Technique: Art of Healing – Cures all allies of attribute debuffs and bestows temporary immunity to status effects.
Goodwin (Dancer) — Once a celebrated playwright from the city of arts, Goodwin’s creative vision clashed with convention, forcing him into exile. After surviving a shipwreck, he reinvented himself as the “Shipwreck King,” drawing inspiration from the seas that nearly claimed him. Ultimate Technique: Song of Levin – Unleashes lightning across all foes, then continues to discharge electric damage automatically for two turns.
But don’t be surprised to see familiar faces! Characters from the original Octopath Traveler—including Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, and H’aanit—will also make appearances, alongside many newcomers from the main story such as Bargello, Richard, Alaune, Solon, Eltrix, and Rondo. In Octopath Traveler 0, Path Actions are your tools for influencing the world. Depending on the moral compass and values of the NPCs you meet—Wealth, Power, or Fame—you’ll have different ways to interact.
- Wealth-based individuals respond to actions like Purchase or Hire, letting you buy items or recruit their service.
- Power-driven characters can be challenged through Contend or impressed through battle.
- Famous personalities influence the success rate of Entreat and Recruit, depending on your reputation.
You can also Invite travelers seeking a new home to join your town. Each decision shapes your relationships, reputation, and access to resources. But here’s where it gets controversial: do these interactions genuinely reflect moral choice, or are they just another layer of strategy?
Amity Levels – Building Bonds that Matter
Once your settlement reaches a specific developmental stage, the Amity mechanic comes into play. It measures the closeness between you and your companions, unlocked through actions like “Inquire Further” in Wishvale. Higher Amity Levels not only unlock rare items but also strengthen your allies’ Resident Skills. Some upgrades even require unique gifts—perhaps your companion’s favorite dish or a sentimental relic—making relationship management a meaningful, ongoing journey.
Party Chat – A Window into the Heart of the Crew
As your adventures unfold, your companions will occasionally engage in spontaneous conversation events known as Party Chats. These dialogues reveal hidden aspects of each traveler’s personality and the emotional ties connecting them. Missed a conversation? Don’t worry—you can revisit them anytime through the main menu. It’s a simple feature that deepens emotional immersion and lets players see not just heroes, but people behind the blades and potions.
