Heads up, Tomball! Prepare for a significant disruption this Wednesday as the city gears up for a scheduled power outage and road closures. This is going to affect a lot of people, so let's break down exactly what you need to know.
On Monday, December 15, 2025, city officials announced that a planned power outage is scheduled to kick off at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. The reason? Essential replacements of poles, transformers, and power lines along the 100-400 block of W. Main Street. This is a big undertaking, and it's going to impact a sizable area.
The power outage will directly affect residents and businesses located one block north and two blocks south of Main Street, specifically between Pine Street and Elm Street. But this is not all, the maintenance work will also lead to the closure of several alleys. This includes those along Commerce Street, Market Street, and Fannin Street, situated between Elm and Pine Streets. This is bound to cause some traffic snarls, so plan your route accordingly.
Now, here's some good news: Main Street (FM 2920) will remain open in both directions. However, be prepared for potential delays. The city is also advising that Oak Street, Cherry Street, Walnut Street, and Elm Street between Commerce Street and Fannin Street will be completely closed to all traffic. Traffic heading north and south from Main Street will be diverted at Pine Street. Expect approximately 65 to 70 utility trucks to be working in the area.
CenterPoint crews are working hard to keep the outage to a minimum, aiming for less than eight hours. For any questions or concerns, the City of Tomball encourages you to contact CenterPoint Energy directly at (713) 207-2222.
But here's where it gets controversial... Do you think eight hours is a reasonable time frame for this kind of work? And how do you think these outages affect local businesses? Share your thoughts in the comments below!**
